A New Trio !
Butcher & Solberg have played together for more than 10 years, generally either in duo or trio. They first worked with Isabelle Duthois in Butcher’s 14 piece group to perform the piece “Fluid Fixations” at HCMF. After recently playing in some other combinations at London's Cafe Oto their trio feels like the next step in exploring some, as yet, unknown and new dynamics.
But where exactly is Isabelle Duthoit's voice coming from? Is it from the belly, from the throat? Is it possible that vocal cords can produce such sounds, that a body is capable of emitting such superhuman raucousness - and without the slightest amplification? We thought we'd heard it all, but no: Isabelle Duthoit still manages to open up radically new horizons, to unleash other elements.
David Sanson
Extraordinarily powerful, Butcher’s saxophone may test the limits of one’s ear to make sense of the close and complex relationships that are put forth, but there’s an undeniable emotional depth and sheer beauty in his work that supersedes technicality and concept.
Tiny Mix Tapes.
The percussion work of Solberg is fabulous: a gentle approach, calm yet full of energy. Solberg seems relaxed yet so focused. Excellent playing forming a basis for the other two to explore.
